the 8 Seeg trade unionists released –

Summoned since Tuesday, December 12, 2023, to the General Directorate of Counter-Interventions and Military Security (DGCISM), the union leaders of Syntee+ (National Union of Workers in the Water and Electricity Sector) were released this Thursday December 14, 2023.

This is following the mood movement caused on Friday December 8, 2023, by agents of the SEEG (Gabon Water and Energy Company), who demanded their gratuity (13th month), that the latter were summoned to B2 on Monday December 11, 2023. In fact, they were interviewed about their demands which bordered on a disturbance of public order. And were supposed to give a statement. But the latter were kept in B2 where they spent 72 hours.

Indeed, last Friday, SEEG agents stopped work, barricaded the main entry and exit doors of the company’s head office to force general management to make payment of the 13th month whose payment date was initially set for Friday, December 8. Let us recall that, the president of the transition Oligui Nguema, who was staying on Sunday in Ndendé in the south of the country, in turn severely threatened reprisals against these agents who, according to him, are incapable of permanently providing water and electricity to population. Oligui Nguéma, furious, asked the SEEG agents to first cut off the power to the presidential palace before attacking the populations.

This speech by the President of the Transition also irritated trade unionists who say they are demanding a legal right. In a message that went viral on social networks, they reminded General Oligui Nguéma that the SEEG is not the Republican Guard to whom we can give orders at will. It was this Thursday, December 14, 2023, that these 8 unionists left B2.
