Although Covid-19 changed the original plans, the opening event of the 7th season of “Sporto whole class” took place and was attended by all participants of the program, who followed the event live in their schools.
The program “Sporto whole class” has developed rapidly during six years and starting the seventh season, more than 7,000 children from all regions of Latvia will participate in the program and spend five hours a week playing sports.
In his congratulatory address, George Tikmer, President of LOK and author of the idea of the Sporto Whole Class program, emphasized that the Sporto Whole Class program encourages young people to be active, purposeful, participate in a team and choose a healthy and sporty lifestyle from an early age. “You are given a unique opportunity to improve yourself, emphasizing that you all play sports together – you are helpful, friendly and motivated. I sincerely believe that you will be the ones who will make Latvia one of the most modern, greenest and healthiest thinking countries in the world. ”
The opening event was organized LOK “Youtube” channel @OlimpiadeLV live and during it there were surprises that did not leave small sports enthusiasts indifferent. The loudest applause in each school was earned by the live concert of the group “Bermuda Triangle”.
The LOK special awards in several nominations were also presented at the online opening event and they were delivered to their new owners by friends of the “Sport all class” program – beach volleyball player and Olympic medalist Mārtiņš Pļaviņš, motorist Reinis Nitišs, LOK vice-president and Olympic medalist head Lilita Mitrofanova. Bauska municipality was named the most active municipality, Ķekava Secondary School was the most active educational institution, while Digna Cunska, the teacher of Alūksne city primary school, was honored as the most responsive class teacher, and Antra Šverna, the sports teacher of Krumulda secondary school, was recognized as the most responsive sports teacher.

The program “Sport for the whole class” was created in 2013 with the aim of purposefully improving the physical fitness and posture of all students in the 2nd to 6th grade groups, giving motivation to engage in sports, as well as to evaluate students’ progress in studies. It is an opportunity to learn about different sports, as well as to strengthen the understanding of achieving a common result as a united team. The author of the idea of the program “Sporto whole class” is the Olympic vice-champion in rowing and the president of LOK George Tikmer.
In the program “Sports for the whole class” 2019/2020. 8,300 children from 369 classes and 75 Latvian municipalities participated in the school year.
