National Basketball Associations (NBA) The Philadelphia 76ers are taking Doka Rivers ’candidacy for head coach more and more seriously, ESPN reports insaideris Adrian Vodzhnarovsky.
It has already been reported that the Rivers and Los Angeles Clippers have just parted ways. This season, the Clippers with one of the strongest teams stopped in the second round of the play-off, sowing the 3-1 lead and losing the Denver Nuggets with 3-4.
The 76ers also fired their head coach Brett Brown, so a replacement is being sought for him. Philadelphia is also seriously interested in former Houston Rockets co-driver Mike D’Anton.
No official offer has been made to Rivers, writes Vodzhnarovsky. Significantly, the 76ers had already invited Tairon Lou, an assistant to the Clippers, to a job interview, but he was a strong candidate to become the head coach of the Los Angeles club.
Rivers received criticism from NBA spectators for failing to quickly change tactical schemes and game plans during the play-off, despite the team slipped.
It has also not been reported whether Rivers himself resigned or was fired, or whether the two sides agreed that the cooperation would be terminated.
Rivers, 58, has been training the team since 2013. His contract was valid for another two years, but now the Clippers will have to find a coach who will be able to take him to the title with the team in the first season.
In 2013, Rivers became the head coach of the Clippers. He also previously led the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics.
