Lars Kerns set a record at the Nürburgring at the helm of the 700-horsepower 911 GT2 RS on June 14 in the presence of a notary. The new Performance package has been developed by Porsche engineers in Weizah and Manthey Nelschlife specialists in Meuspach.
Beat the current record by 4,747 seconds
The plan was to break the current 6: 48,047 minutes production car record. At the wheel of the 911 GT2 RS, Kerns rushed through the plan, surpassing the previous time by 4,747 seconds with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires on public roads and an average speed of 185.87 km / h.
“Our GT customers often use their cars on the tracks,” said Frank-Stephen Walliser, vice president of the 911/718 model line. “Manthey and Porsche engineers have jointly developed a perfectly customized package that allows the 911 GT2 RS to achieve even greater performance,” adds Valiser.
Lars Cairns broke the record despite warm weather and a +41 degree track. “The 911 GT2 RS with the Manthey Performance package” sticks “to the track like glue – you feel like you’re racing in a car, especially in fast corners. while allowing control to be maintained, “says Kerns.
Parts precisely matched to each other
Porsche Tequipment’s Manthey Performance package consists of chassis, aerodynamics and brake system components designed specifically for the 911 GT2 RS. It also includes “Weissach” packages for lightweight magnesium cast discs.
‘The individual components of the Performance package are precisely matched to each other. They only become fully effective when installed together, “explains Alexander Fabig, Porsche AG’s Vice President of Personalization and Classics.
“Thus, this set is currently only available as a whole package. We are still evaluating individual offers,” adds Fabigs.
The components of aerodynamics are the first to catch the eye. Additional flanges on the front spoiler increase the clamping force on the front axle, combined with carbon chassis components and additional air deflectors in the front wheel area.
The clamping force increases from 49 to 70 kilograms at 200 km / h and from 93 to 200 kilograms on the rear axle at the same speed. This is provided by a new rear spoiler, a modified air diffuser and Aero discs in the rear wheels.
Porsche and Manthey use the motorsport experience gained over several years to develop adjustable shock absorbers optimized for racing tracks. The front shock absorbers can be adjusted in three different settings and the rear shock absorbers in four settings.
Special racing brake pads for the PCCB ceramic brake system reduce efficiency losses while improving responsiveness and control accuracy. Steel-lined brake lines provide even more direct pedal response.
Magnesium discs, 20 inches in the front and 21 inches in the back, save 11.4 kg. They are available in diamond silver, black, gold, white gold metallic and platinum.
An additional water tank for intercooler spraying increases the total volume of the system by about nine liters, thus increasing the time between refills.
“With these new parts, we’ve made an extremely good car even better,” concludes Andreas Preninger, GT’s vice president of automotive.
The “911 GT2 RS” with the “Manthey Performance” package is perfectly adapted to the wishes of customers who like to go to the track with their car. This 6: 43,330 minute lap time is equivalent to the 6: 38,835 minutes old shorter version, so it ‘s a real success, “says Preninger.
