The 7 biggest revelations from Meghan and Harry’s Netflix movie trailer

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have decided not to hold back.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are offering an unprecedented look at their departure from their royal roles in their new Netflix series Harry and Meghan, according to two trailers. Harry, 38, and Meghan, three years older, talk about the joy of their romance and the pain they face because of it.

“Everything changed”

The latest trailer, which Netflix released on Monday, shows footage from the day Prince Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in November 2017, and a clip from one of her first royal appearances. “She’s turning into a real rock star!” comments a reporter as the camera fast-forwards their kiss outside St George’s Chapel on their wedding day in May 2018 and cuts to one of their interviews with the teams on Netflix for the documentary.

“And then,” Megan says, snapping her fingers, and Harry finishes the sentence, “Everything changed.”

The couple hinted at media harassment of Meghan and rising tensions within the royal family itself.

“There is a hierarchy in the family”

Prince Harry touches the hard side of the Studio: Trailer shows a photo of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Color in 2019. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stand in the second row, separated by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Andrew and away from Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children.

“There’s a hierarchy in the family,” notes Prince Harry. “There are leaks, but also a lot of made-up stories, for example from the press,” he added, as the clip showed Harry and Meghan with their now 3-year-old son Archie during their tour of Africa later that year. .

Harry is third in line to the throne, after his older brother William, the future king. The saying “heir and reserve” is believed to have inspired the title of Harry’s forthcoming memoir, Spare, due out on 10 January 2023.

“The War Against Megan”

“There was a war against Meghan to fit in, to fit in other people’s standards, to fit in other people’s schedules,” says a commenter in the second trailer, in which the Duchess of Sussex mourns. In the following shots, Harry puts his head in his hands. “It’s a dirty game,” he commented contemptuously.

The pain and suffering of the women who marry in this institution”

Prince Harry has drawn a heartbreaking comparison between the searing spotlight his wife has faced in the UK and the same treatment his late mother, Princess Diana, has been troubled by.

“The pain and suffering of the women who marry in this institution,” Harry says as videos of Diana and Kate are followed by paparazzi.

“I was horrified. I didn’t want history to repeat itself,” he adds.

“They’ll Never Protect You”

Meghan emotionally states, “I understand they will never protect you,” apparently referring to the royal family and its reach. Meghan and Harry look nervous as they sit together in the car, amid car horns and media cameras.

I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”

The first Harry and Meghan trailer, which was released on December 1, kicked off on a softer note, showcasing a montage of never-before-seen private photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including snuggle albeit photo shoots, as well as shots of a pregnant Meghan.

“Nobody sees what happens behind closed doors,” explains Harry as the camera pans to a photo of him and Meghan sitting behind Prince William and Princess Kate in Westminster Abbey in 2019, showing the tension between them. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family,” Harry said flatly, probably explaining why they were moving all the way to California.

“Hear our story from us personally”

Elsewhere, Harry and Meghan shed some light on why they decided to share their story for the first time.

“When the stakes are so high, doesn’t it make more sense for you to hear our story from us?” Megan asks rhetorically.

According to Netflix, the series reveals their love story, but painting a picture of our world and how we treat each other.
