The medal is an emblematic object since antiquity. This small round of precious metal was already given by Alexander the Great as rewards or for great military deeds. The sports medal
The most well-known type of medal is obviously the sports medal. The medals of the Olympic Games, for example, are the dream of millions of people around the world. They are awarded to the winners of various sports competitions and are available in three precious metals:

The religious medal
The Christian religion includes a number of medals in its symbolism. The best known being the baptism medal, given to the child once baptized by the godfather or godmother. The honorary medal

The Labor Medal
The French state also awards another type of medal, this time related to work, and more specifically to the seniority of the employer. The latter must apply for it and have an associate degree. There are four labor medals:
- the silver medal for 20 years of seniority;
- the vermeil medal for 30 years of seniority;
- the gold medal for 35 years of seniority;
- the big gold medal for 40 years of seniority.
These medals can be awarded earlier depending on the difficulty of the work, respectively after 18, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.
The commemorative medal
The medal is not necessarily a reward and does not necessarily mark an act or an important fact. A commemorative medal can also be reset memory of an event. France hands out a few during certain events and individuals are completely free to create their own. Commemorative medals, produced in small quantities and during a given period, have a high value for collectors.
The Tourism Medal
Unrecognized, the tourism medal was created by the French government in 1989. This medal is awarded by the State to anyone who has contributed, through the duration or quality of their actions, to the influence of tourism in the country. It is again divided into three categories:
- the bronze medal for 8 years of services rendered;
- the silver medal after 13 years;
- the gold medal after 18 years.
