Irapuato, Gto., on August 3, 2023.- The State Theater Meeting, the largest annual event of Guanajuato theatrics, will leave the capital for the first time and will hold its fifth edition in the city of Irapuato, with the participation of more than 100 artists and creatives.
Lorena Alfaro Rodríguez, municipal president of Irapuato, and Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture, led the press conference at the Salvador Almaraz Museum in which the program of the Meeting was announced, which will bring together a dozen face-to-face proposals and a virtual one from August 16 to 20.
The Teatro de la Ciudad de Irapuato and the forums of the Regional Center for Artistic Expression (CREA) and the Institute of Culture and Theatrical Training Akana will be the venues for the scenic celebration that will have as a special guest the municipality of Xichú, which will share one of its traditional bumps: poetic and musical confrontation that is one of the hallmarks of the Sierra Gorda, in the northeast of Guanajuato.
Líquido Colectivo, La Maña Teatro, Guerrero Compañía de Artes Scenicas, Malacara Teatro & Las Peores, Corazón Down, EN/Conjunto Teatro, Sin Pasaporte Teatro, the Ensmable de Artistas Guanajuatenses and Sergio Langarica, make up the face-to-face poster of the Meeting, which is complemented by with an online montage by Cristina Zamora and Noemí Sánchez.
The municipal president of Irapuato, Lorena Alfaro, was pleased that the Meeting has Irapuato as its venue and generates opportunities for coexistence and cultural enrichment for the entire population. “Theater is a way to reach different audiences in a fun, entertaining and emotional way with the most diverse topics,” said the mayor.
Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture, was pleased that the State Theater Meeting is taking place in a new venue, as this is how it achieves its purpose of approaching new audiences and groups of stage creators.
“El Encuentro is a program that we have built hand in hand with the Guanajuato stage community and aims to be a plural and representative showcase of the theatrical work of Guanajuato. On this occasion, it has been made with 10 productions selected by call that account for the diversity of theatrical voices in our state”, said the head of the IEC.
Omar de Vil, stage artist participating in the event and member of its accompaniment commission, explained that the organization of the Meeting is carried out horizontally, under conceptual axes proposed by the Guanajuato scenic community itself.
“These axes are stage work for children and adolescents; gender relations and violence; theatricality and virtuality and subaltern stage poetics. All this has been reflected on for eight months and they also guide the selection of the workshops and dialogue tables that will accompany the Encounter”, commented the also director of La Maña Teatro.
The State Theater Meeting will start on Wednesday, August 16, with a day that includes the production for girls and boys “Have you seen the Pacific?” with the Guanajuato Artists Ensemble, and “Poema para tres”, a camera montage about love relationships by EN/Conjunto Teatro and Sin Pasaporte Teatro.
They will be followed by other family proposals, such as “La bruja”, by Líquido Colectivo; the “Musical Callejón del Beso”, with young actors belonging to the Corazón Down Psychoeducational Center; “Hora de juegos”, by Guerrer Compañía de Artes Escénicas and “La familia del anticuario”, a classic comedy of art being produced by the Sor Juana Cultural Center of the Oviedo Institute.
The audience at the Meeting will also be able to appreciate more irreverent and subversive proposals, such as “Lulú, terribly fabulous”, a comedy about HIV by Malacara Teatro & Las Peores, or “Les Independients”, a contribution to the cabaret genre by La Maña Teatro.
The billboard is completed by: “Pájaros en la cabeza”, a wordless montage by Sergio Langarica and “Howl”, the virtual montage by Cristina Zamora and Noemí Sánchez.
All the functions of the 5th State Theater Meeting will be offered free of charge. The complete program can be consulted on the website of the State Institute of Culture.
