Socio-economic portrait of the 5th district of the Rhône before the legislative elections of June 12 and 19, 2022. A district which covers a large part of the Monts d’Or. Outgoing MP Blandine Brocard is standing again but will not have the same opponent as in 2017.
In the 5th constituency of the Rhône, the outgoing deputy, Blandine Brocade (Modem) takes another turn. If there is any doubt, she has obtained the nomination of the presidential majority. The deputy had joined the ranks of the Modem during her term, standing out from LREM.
Facing her, Philippe Cochet decided not to run. The Mayor of Caluire, the main town in the constituency, is the former Member of Parliament for the constituency. Beaten in 2017, he gave up this year and it is one of his assistants who will present himself for the LR: Bastien Joint. Fabrice Matteucci (PS) will be the candidate of Nupes in a constituency very difficult to win for the left.
Before the first round of the 2022 legislative elections, on June 12, a quick portrait of the territory through a few socio-economic indicators.
A greater proportion of executives and families
On the territory of the 5th district, the proportion of frames is near twice as important than the average in the Lyon metropolitan area alone: 28.5% compared to around 15%. It hosts a much lower proportion of workers than the national average.
Moreover, the territory of the 5th district is characterized by an overrepresentation of families. The proportion of people living alone is lower than the national average or than in the whole of the metropolis of Lyon. Couples, with or without children, are more numerous there.
A qualified population is employed
median age is 41 years old (like the average in France). the population growth rate is stronger there than the national average between 2013 and 2019: 0.7% against 0.4%.
In 2018, in the 5th district of the Rhône there were more thanworking people (+ 3 points) than the national average for a lower unemployment rate.
About 57.5% of the population has a diploma (BAC +2 and more), i.e. nearly 20 points more than the national and metropolitan average.
A higher standard of living in the 5th district of the Rhône
The median annual household income is 27 650 euros about. Versus 22 710 euros in the Metropolis of Lyon and nearly 22,000 euros nationally.
We note that the poorest segment of households still has incomes above the national or metropolitan average. The “rich” are also “richer” than the average.
In the territory of the 5th constituency, the proportion of “poor households” is almost twice as low as the national average. It has twice as many wealthy households, as defined by INSEE.
The 5th district has a poverty rate much lower than the average. As elsewhere, the youngest households remain the most affected.
Assets that move around a lot
In a very residential district, the proportion of workers working in a municipality other than that of residence is very high. It borders the 75%.
Nevertheless, the soft modes, walking and cycling, are used more than the metropolitan average. Just like the public transport. Figures that certainly explain the presence of Caluire-et-Cuire in the constituency. Most populated city and connected to some strong lines of the TCL network.
