The 5 Surprising Reasons Why You’re Always Cold

Some will think you’re a terrible poser, but you can’t help it if you always do it cold have? There are many reasons why the urge to grab a blanket or sit with a hot water bottle under your sweater suddenly makes a lot more sense.

5 Reasons

1. Cold intolerance

There are people who are just cold all the time. This is what doctors call cold intolerance and is usually not a sign of anything serious. It is true that certain health conditions can cause cold intolerance. See, you’re not showing off!

2. Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which your thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones that properly regulate your metabolism. This can happen for several reasons, the most common being Hashimoto’s disease (attacks your thyroid). Since an underactive thyroid affects many metabolic functions, hypothyroidism can cause a wide range of symptoms, including fatigue, unintentional weight gain, constipation, dry skin, thinning hair, depressed mood, heavy or irregular periods, and increased sensitivity to cold.

3. Anemia

Anemia is a blood disorder that occurs when you don’t have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body. This may be the result of your body producing too few red blood cells, destroying too many red blood cells, or losing too much blood for some reason. This leads to less circulation to your extremities, making you feel colder, especially in your hands and feet. Other anemia symptoms include weakness, fatigue, an irregular heartbeat, lighter skin, chest pain and headaches.

4. Raynaud’s disease

Raynaud’s disease is a condition that causes your extremities to become cold, discolored (such as red or blue), numb and even painful when you are outside in low temperatures or under stress. It happens because your blood vessels narrow. Usually occurs in the fingers and toes, but it can also occur in the nose, lips, ears and nipples. Normally, people with Raynaud’s disease only develop symptoms when they come into contact with the cold. It’s actually a normal reaction for your blood vessels to constrict in the cold, but with Raynaud’s it happens too quickly or too violently.

5. Lost weight

Your body uses fat to conserve heat, so it makes sense that if you have a lower body weight, you get cold more quickly. It is also not uncommon to become more sensitive to the cold after your body weight decreases. Also, if your weight loss is connected to eating too few calories, this can lead to a slowed metabolism. As a result, your temperature control does not work as efficiently as usual. That will be a lot of eating again!
