JAKARTA – The animals in the world have diversity the extraordinary, from giant mammals to the tiniest insects. However, among this diversity, there are some animals that really grab our attention because of their extraordinary uniqueness. They are the strangest animals in the world.
So, here is a list of the 5 strangest animals in the world:
1. Ghost Shark
The discovery of the Ghost Shark is relatively new because babies of this species were only found off the coast of New Zealand in February 2022. Ghost Sharks are formally known as chimaeras, they rarely show themselves and very little information is known about them.
Ghost sharks are thought to live at depths of 122m and 2,012m with very low temperatures. Despite the name ‘Shark’, chimaeras do not belong to the shark family, they have a skull made of cartilage instead of bone.
2. Irrawaddy dolphins
Irrawaddy dolphins are found in coastal areas and rivers in South and Southeast Asia, with their round heads and playful expressions, these dolphins look like children’s drawings. However, there are only a few species of Irrawaddy dolphins, only 92 are known. The main cause of the extinction of these dolphins is accidentally caught in fishing nets.
3. Saiga Antelope
The Saiga antelope has a different nose shape than other antelope species. Although large and strange, the nose of the Saiga Antelope has an important function in its life in the semi-desert wilderness located in Mongolia and Kazakhstan.
Not only do they have to face heat and cold, they also have to deal with the dust from their migration. Their nose functions to warm the air before it enters the lungs, also filtering dust so that it really helps them to survive while living in threatening plains.
