Jakarta –
Apart from the Japanese, the country with the longest living population is also Pakistan. It turns out that these are the 5 secrets to the longevity of those who can reach 100 years of age.
Recent research reveals an area whose residents have an average life expectancy of around 100 years. That area is the Hunza Valley, Pakistan.
According to CNBC Make It, the Hunza Valley is home to the Burusho and Wakhi indigenous people. For centuries, they have been able to survive and thrive in remote villages with minimal facilities and simple health facilities.
Interestingly, they are actually able to survive up to 100 years with limited conditions. So, what’s the secret? Here are five secrets of long life from the people of the Hunza Valley.
1. Routinely eat seeds and apricot oil
Apricot trees are one of the most important local crops for the people of the Hunza Valley. Research has found that apricot seeds can help fight cancer and other sources of inflammation in the body thanks to the compound amygdalin.
Most of the traditional foods of the Hunzai Valley contain apricot oil. The way local people process apricots is by using machines to extract oil from harvested seeds.
2. Routine moves
The people of the Hunza Valley are known to be healthy and active throughout their lives, even when they are 80 years old. In daily life, elderly Hunza people are active in herding cows and sheep, collecting wood, and doing other physical activities.
Not only that, the elderly are also active in “Rajaki” activities, namely cleaning water channels when spring arrives. Meanwhile, other residents of various ages often do leisure sports, such as cycling, skating, football and cricket.
3. Drink glacier water

Entering summer, the Hunza Valley is filled with melting glaciers. According to researchers, the dark gray sparkling liquid called “Hunza Water” is naturally filtered by layers of ice and rock, and contains minerals.
Some argue that “Hunza Water” contains the mineral quartz in colloidal form. This mineral is considered a powerful antioxidant.
From May to October, local residents, restaurants and homes prefer to drink glacier water rather than filtered water.
4. Rarely consume processed food
Almost every piece of meat consumed by the people of the Hunza Valley is fresh, freshly cut meat. Hunza people rarely eat processed food, let alone fast food.
Instead, they always eat food from fresh ingredients and usually get it from vegetables grown in the backyard. Spinach, tomatoes and potatoes are popular vegetables and are most loved by local people.
5. Have strong social relationships

The village environment is known to have close social relations. Likewise with the people of the Hunza Valley. The people there are known to look after each other, especially towards elderly community members.
Unlike in other regions, you can be sure that you will not be able to find a retirement home in the Hunza Valley. Because the elderly there are highly respected and cared for by their respective families.
Apart from that, this area is also known to be safe for children to roam alone outside the house. Because, it is claimed that the Hunza Valley has no crime.
