It’s the middle of December, which means Christmas events are coming to every live, ongoing, mobile, or gacha service game imaginable. What will be the happiest for you?
It is a very hectic time of year, in which you have to prepare for the holidays. It is also a time of year when many of us acquire new games to play. But as we cross items off our lists, many of our favorite ongoing games are doing their part to make everyday life festive, putting snow and mistletoe everywhere.
Calling these Christmas events a “clean box” would be easy and extremely pessimistic, but is that what is intended at this time of year? No, it is about filling the last days of the year with light and joy, and reuniting with loved ones. So here are five great events that will enrich your holiday spirit.

5) Overwatch – Winter Wonderland 2021
In a way, it’s hard to recommend a holiday event from an Activision Blizzard game under the current circumstances, but as a player of Overwatch who has stopped playing, I have many good memories of previous years. Of all the seasonal events the game hosts annually, Halloween and Christmas are the most beloved by me, and in large part thanks to the incredible appearances of the characters. Not only are all the skins from previous years available, but the ones from this year are great. Even my poor main character D.Va has benefited from a new feature.
Of course, special game modes like Yeti Hunter and Mei’s Snowball are back, as well as weekly challenges with unique unlockables for Tracer, Symmetra, and Brigitte. The character and style of Overwatch they are its greatest strengths, and the Winter Wonderland events always use them splendidly.
4) Pokémon Go, Pokémon Café Remix Y Pokémon Unite
If you play one of the Pokémon mobile games, chances are you will also play one of the others. And if so, you have a whole hydra of Christmas events to work with. Pokémon Go He shows off his usual tricks, putting Christmas and snow costumes on various monsters. You can even find some in brilliant shape while participating in this weekend’s Community Day event. El Pokémon Café Remix It has also added to the holiday spirit with a series of events leading up to the new year, including the Ice-type Vulpix and a significant increase in shiny encounter rates.
But nevertheless,Pokémon Unite it is perhaps the one that goes the furthest. In addition to the new skins, there is a snowball fighting mode and a series of daily gifts from December 24 to January 1. The first day of 2022 is the only day that a unique prize box will be available, containing one of four exclusive fashion items.
3) Animal Crossing New Horizons – Toy Day
Like most seasonal occasions in Animal Crossing, Christmas events are more than a one-day affair. From now until January 6, the evergreens on your island will be festooned with lights, and they will be able to shake until Infinity to produce red, blue and yellow ornaments. You can use them to make Christmas objects, the recipes of which can be obtained from villagers and balloons. Use them to decorate your island.
You can also go to Nook’s Cranny every day until the 24th. Timmy and Tommy will store a different “toy” each day. On Christmas Eve, Santa’s helper reindeer, Jingle, will arrive and commission you to deliver the presents to each of the villagers, and you can also give them the various toys that you have collected earlier. Special items are great, but isn’t interaction with your friendly villagers the real payoff?
2) Destiny 2 – “Dawn”
Not much has changed the structure of this year’s Dawn event in Destiny 2, but that’s okay. It’s still a great excuse to rewatch the game and try everything it has to offer. To get the necessary craft ingredients for Eva Levante’s missions, you will have to fight against each of the different types of enemies, through various game modes, with all the means at your disposal. Turn those seasonal ingredients into custom snacks for each of the NPCs, like the deliciously named “Gjallardoodles” for Zavala or the Weird Cookies for Xûr.
Dawn missions and activities award rewards like four seasonal weapons, and of course there are a handful of new cosmetics to help you dress up. (My favorite is the Christmas Jumper Ghost, which – you’re listening to me, Bungie – I’d buy in real life to put on top of my tree.) But for a game I’ve played for so long, I really enjoy doing my rounds at the Tower and “catching up” with these salespeople and mentors.
1) Fortnite – Winter Wonderland 2021
Speaking of cosmetics, Fortnite. The world’s greatest battle royale naturally adds to the holiday spirit too, with a plethora of themed items to spend your V-bucks on. Wrap your outfit in candy cane motifs, put on an ugly jumper or turn into a real candy cane. Or equip Reina, a lively skin that is a cross between Rudolph, all the aesthetics of Genshin Impact and … Negan, with his clawed bat beak?
All of this is the norm at these Christmas events, of course, but what helps place Fortnite At the top of this list is the Lodge. Enter each day to get a total of fourteen gifts: a glider, a stele, an emote, a lobby clue, a loading screen, an emoticon, a spray, a banner, two suits, two pickaxes and two wrappers (what? a partridge in a pear tree?). You can even choose which presents to open from a cozy separate screen, with the ability to rattle the boxes first, so you can figure out what’s inside.
And then jump into a game in your Christmas finery in full and get riddled by your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, thanks to the ongoing crossover. No Way Home, because this is Fortnite, baby.
