The 47-year-old economist is Zaev’s likely successor as prime minister

The most probable successor of Zoran Zaev the 47-year-old is prime minister of northern Macedonia Deputy Minister of Finance Dimitar Kovachevski, reported BGNES. The information has not been officially confirmed yet.

Kovachevski is taking part this afternoon with Zoran Zaev in talks with the leader of the Albanian Alternative formation, Afrim Gashi, who is likely to join the new government coalition with a new prime minister.

Dimitar Kovacevski, who was born in the town of Kumanovo in 1976, has a doctorate in economics. He studied at the American College in Skopje, and previously studied in Minnesota, USA. In 2011 he specialized (ExEd in digital marketing) at the Harvard Business School and at the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Prior to becoming Deputy Minister, he worked for a number of telecommunications operators such as Deutsche Telekom, One -vip and A1. Participates in many business ventures in Lithuania, Slovenia, Turkey. Last year, he was part of the Macedonian government’s Economic Council, which had to deal with the challenges of the pandemic.

After the second round of local elections on October 31 Zaev announced that he would retire from the post of Prime Minister, including that of a leader in the ruling Social Democratic Union (SDSM).

Zaev postponed his resignation until the political situation stabilized
