The Windows support page will introduce the system configuration tools in Windows, among which it will be found that the “Control Panel” is no longer supported. The official word “Control” will still be there, but the “Settings” application is replacing it and users are recommended to use the “Settings” application whenever possible.

The “Control Panel” has been around since Microsoft launched Windows 1.0 in 1985, allowing users to change the date and time, change the desktop background, screen saver or fonts, and change keyboard and mouse settings. When Microsoft launched Windows 8 in 2012, it launched the “Settings” application and intended to replace it with the “Control Panel”, but no action was taken to allow both to live until now.
Microsoft notes on its support page that it is replacing the “Control Panel” with the “Settings” app, which it says will provide a more modern and simplified experience. Microsoft has not yet given an exact time when the “Control” will disappear from Windows, but since the “Settings” application appeared, the “Control” gradually lost its usefulness for the same reason which it still is today for reasons related to the capacity problem.
