Madrid, October 22, 2024. The BMW Painting Prize reinforces the commitment acquired 39 years ago, making artistic talent visible and highlighting the art and culture of our country. With almost four decades of experience, the contest has managed to break a new record by receiving more than 1,700 applications, with 1,524 in the Painting category and 241 in the Digital Art category.

This year’s edition also stands out for the increase in female participation, which has come to represent 44.6% of the total applications received. Compared to the previous year, 150 additional women’s nominations have been registered, underlining the growing presence and recognition of women artists in the competition.

Likewise, this new record of participation not only consolidates the BMW Painting Prize as a pillar of the Spanish art scene and a coveted award for artists who seek to use it as a springboard to boost their career, but also reinforces its international projection. In this edition, works by artists from 39 nationalities have been received, a significant achievement that reaffirms the global reach of the award.

This year’s jury, made up of representative figures from the world of art and culture, repeats for the second consecutive year, once again contributing their experience and criteria to select the best works of this edition. Among its members is Antonio López, painter, sculptor and draftsman; Miguel Zugaza, director of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao; Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, founder and president of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo; Guillermo Solana, artistic director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid and Lucía Casani, director of the Carasso Foundation.

After a rigorous selection process, the jury has selected the 12 finalist works, of which 8 will compete for the BMW Painting Prize and 4 for the BMW Digital Art Prize
