The 36th International Organ Music Festival Riga Dom 2023 will be performed in 12 concerts from July 12 to August 6. The concert programs will include music from premieres to classics, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the great German composer Makš Rēger, a relatively rare encounter in Latvian music – orchestra and organ. , also sand sculptures performed by Ukrainian artist Tatjana Gavriļenko, which will be combined with Ukrainian landscapes in organ music, the Riga Saxophone Quartet and the percussion ensemble Riga Percussion and, of course, 11 outstanding Latvian and foreign organists. As always, all concerts with video projection in the church hall. Riga Cathedral’s Walcker organ is still relevant and just as famous all over the world – it enlivens premieres, initiates creativity and tirelessly tells about classical values.
The festival will be opened by two world-renowned organists – Ludgers Lomanis (July 12/ Germany) and Matias Vägers (July 14/ Sweden). In addition, L. Lomanis will also give master classes for two days to experienced and also young organists, focusing especially on German romantic music. At the concert “Latvian Organ Concert” (July 16), recently premiered pieces by Indra Riše and Jēkab Jančevski will be given their second performances (for the first time in Riga Cathedral), while Rentāte Stivriņa has created a double concerto for saxophone (Aigars Raumanis) and organ (Aigars Reinis), which the Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra and accompanied by conductor Andras Veismanis will experience the premiere. A special story about the supposedly known/unknown 2nd organ concerto “Triptichon” by Marħer Zariņš, which has practically never been played in a live concert since its creation in 1972 (during the recent restrictions, it was played in an absent concert in Rēzekne and was included in the new Marħer Zariņš music CD).
The following concerts will also feature a lot of diversity and variety – Ukrainian music and sand projections (July 23/ Larisas Tsarjkova and Tatjana Gavriļenko), less frequently played Latvian music pages for violin and organ (July 19/ Una Cintiņa and Indulis Cintiņš), “Dialogues” (28 in July/ Vita Kalnciema and Egils Upatnieks). On August 2, H. Gurecki’s expanded “O Domina nostra” will be performed in the interpretation of Kristine Adamaita and Ieva Parša, on August 4 the premiere of Indra Riše will be performed by Ligita Sneibe (Sweden) and the violinist Monta Vermann, who lives in Germany, while at the final concert (July 6) even several will be performed premieres – Platons Buravickis and Dzintra Kurme Gedroica.
Everyone can find something suitable and interesting to enter Riga Cathedral in the very heart of Riga – a place connected with our history, its development and today. The current, the important for us and the unforgettable – all this together at the oldest festival in Latvia RĪGAS DOMS 2023!
