The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival was founded in 1998 by Nancy Buirski. Initially operating under the name “Double Take Documentary Film Festival”, it later expanded its repertoire to become one of the best documentary film festivals in the United States.

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is a well-known venue with a cozy environment that encourages deep dialogues between audiences, industry professionals and filmmakers. The progressive and fearless choice of documentaries, with a focus on character-driven narratives that impact viewers on an intimate level, led to this festival being among the best. Full Frame is a highly professional event in the world of documentary filmmaking, qualified for the Academy Award for Documentary Short Film. The festival is known for its avant-garde methods of documentary film production as well as its commitment to the community, which includes educational opportunities for students from affiliated institutions and universities.

Before submitting, please note that films of 40 minutes or less are considered short films and films of 41 minutes or longer are considered feature films. The festival will reject films over 180 minutes and as for the deadline, all submission materials should be submitted by early December.

Eligibility: Short and feature-length documentaries completed after January (each year for the following year’s festival) are eligible for submission to the festival.

Eligibility: There are various submission deadlines, and IDFA considers documentaries, performances, and new media projects in any format and of any duration. Films completed after July are eligible for the following year’s festival.

Premiere status: Depending on the program area, the IDFA has different premiere standards. Films that have not been shown extensively online or in public galleries usually have a higher chance of being selected.

Submission Procedure: As mentioned in the festival guidelines, filmmakers must submit a screening copy, complete the online entry form and provide all other required materials. Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival

Eligibility: To be eligible, a film must have been completed after January 1 of the year before the festival. Feature films, mid-length films and television series must have at least their Ontario premieres, meaning they cannot have been publicly screened in Ontario prior to the festival. Short films must have at least their Toronto premieres.

Online Availability: No feature-length film, mid-length film or television series in any format may be available online in Ontario, Canada. This restriction does not apply to short film submissions.
