The 20th edition of the New York Flamenco Festival is definitively canceled

Madrid, Nov 27 (EFE) .- The New York Flamenco Festival, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, has been permanently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, which had already forced it to be delayed from March to autumn.
“The mobility restrictions and the temporary closure of many of the spaces where the festival was to be held” prevent it from being held, the organizers announced in a statement, in which they wanted to thank the support of all those involved and the “solidarity and understanding “of the artists.
Initially, the New York Flamenco Festival was to be held from March 12 to April 5. Later it was delayed to autumn, with a notable reduction in shows.
This year, 30 companies were scheduled to participate in 80 performances.
Among others, there were two shows scheduled at the Baryshnikov Arts Center by Patricia Guerrero, and concerts by Niño de Elche and Dani de Morón.
Niño de Elche was going to present on stage Le Poisson Rouge his new album “Colombiana”, which expands the fruitful relationship between flamenco and Caribbean rhythms in a show co-presented by the World Music Institute.
For his part, Dani de Morón had planned to join the Israeli jazz guitarist Yotam Silberstein to offer a fusion show of flamenco sounds at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Dizzy’s Club.
In its 20 years, the Flamenco Festival has offered 696 performances and presented 137 companies in 90 spaces around the world, led by great names in flamenco such as Sara Baras, Miguel Poveda, Vicente Amigo, Eva Yerbabuena, Estrella Morente, Carmen Linares, Tomatito, María Pagés, Manuela Carrasco, Paco de Lucía or Enrique Morente.
The New York Flamenco Festival has the support, among others, of Inaem (Ministry of Culture and Sports), Extenda (Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion of the Junta de Andalucía), the SGAE Foundation, Acción Cultural Española AC / E, Instituto Cervantes , and the Aecid.
