He National Electoral Council (CNE) approved on April 5 the increase in assembly members from 137 to 151 for the following year, that is, 14 more legislators than in the current period. This, based on the last population census and as stipulated by the Code of Democracy.
In that regulatory body, in its article 150, it indicates:
“The National Assembly It will be made up of Assembly Members elected as follows:
- Fifteen assembly members elected in national constituency
- Two assembly members elected by each province or metropolitan district, and one more for every two hundred thousand inhabitants or fraction that exceeds one hundred and fifty thousand, according to the last national population census.
The 137 assembly members who now make up the Legislature were chosen with knowledge in the 2010 population census. But with the 2022 census it is indicated that Ecuador It has a population of 17.7 million, so the Plenary must be integrated with 14 more legislators.
In this way, in the 2025 elections, Ecuadorians will choose, in addition to the president and vice president, 15 national assembly members, 130 provincial assembly members and 6 foreign assembly members.
