It doesn’t appear. I was born in Rome, a co-production of a father from Puglia and a mother from Abruzzo. I lost my parents early. At twenty, I was already alone, without even a relative. I only had friends and a cat, Harry, with whom I shared eighteen years and who taught me a lot, for example to distrust some and to love others: he got on board the people he liked and looked with suspicion at all those who, according to him, were to be avoided.
Capricorn, like my ascendant. In fact, we got along well: I’m very sociable, but, at home, I prefer to be alone. In fact, I also live outside the city, in the Roman countryside. How does astrology fit into your life?
By chance, at 15, thinking it was all bullshit. At the time, there were no social media or many distractions, there was still time to be curious and I, in high school, started reading the profiles of my classmates’ zodiac signs to see if they corresponded to their character. In March ’77, at the age of 16, I made my first program on TeleJolly. It was one of those newborn private TV channels that didn’t know what to broadcast and that broadcast Stallio e Ollio from morning to night. I called and asked if I needed an astrology program. They took me right away. We broadcast from a mountain just below the antenna. We went on air from a cabin without heating, with scarves and condensation coming out of our mouths.
How did your parents take it?
They wanted me to become a lawyer or a banker. One day, my mother called TeleJolly and said: my son just has to study, send him home immediately! But they sent me away only when astrologers and fortune tellers arrived who paid for the spaces and put their telephone number on top to get clients.
And you don’t equip yourself to take on clients?
I never wanted to do this job for money and, to date, I have never had a private client. This is also why I don’t stay on social media: not being contactable is a guarantee of credibility. When Telejolly ended, I thought my entire career as an astrologer was over, but instead, my name is the weekly children’s magazine Cio. Astrology was in my destiny: since I started, I have never lacked work.
When did you start making a living from this?
I had won a competition in the public administration, I had the classic permanent job. But I wasn’t made for that life: I arrived late, I didn’t have the pleasure of doing things, I felt like I was stealing my salary. I needed a creative activity. Meanwhile, I had started doing free horoscopes for the radio and invented a new language: direct, clear, which then became a standard. To be clear, I remember a seminar in which a colleague began to answer a lady’s question starting from the philosophy of the chakra. She interrupted him and said: yes, but is my husband coming back? In short, as soon as I started getting paid for horoscopes, I quit. The turning point came when I arrived at Rai.

Afterwards, Fabrizio became a dear friend. He was looking for an astrologer who could do a couple’s horoscope. He knew me through mutual friends and liked that I didn’t do private consultations. Then, one of their authors called me on Carlo Conti’s early evening show on Raiuno, Good luck. We had very high ratings every day. It was 1998, the “explosion” of Paolo Fox. Afterwards, I was always on many programs and on prime time. For twenty years, I have been on Raidue in Mezzogiorno with my family.

70 percent of my life horoscope, 20 social relationships, 10 for eating, washing, dressing. Every day I have to study 12 signs and write differently for radio, TV and newspapers: you cannot address the housewife or the worker in the same way. In short, I have the whole day left and, for Rai, I’m away from 9am to 1pm. Between June and August, with the TV season stopped, I take those four hours to write the horoscope book for the following year. Even on holiday, I never switch off. Probably, if I were to take a month off, I would burn out.
What does your Christmas Card say about this?
I am Aquarius Capricorn rising. Aquarius is a very free sign, but Capricorn gives me the determination to work hard, while Aquarius is the one who complains, says: we’ve never taken big trips, never anything fun, we’ve never moved. But also what he tells me: don’t worry, if one road closes, another opens. Tomorrow I am ready to leave everything for a small town in Trentino.
Can you explain to me how a planet would influence our lives?
I don’t know, nobody knows. I hope we find out one day. I can only say that it works and that those who approach astrology notice it. Once, they put me under anesthesia to do a gastroscopy and when I woke up, I was casting a horoscope for everyone present. I had arrived at Leo and discovered that I had told the true horoscopes: if I didn’t believe what I was doing, under anesthesia, I would have answered nonsense.
What is the horoscope question you are asked most often?
Twenty years ago, they asked me if they were getting married or having children. Today, if I say that it’s a wonderful year to get married, they reply: are you crazy? Today, everyone always wants to know about love, but a love where there is not always a desire for family.
What precautions do you use when writing a horoscope?
I’m protective, I try not to scare. And then, I only do my personal horoscope, not the world one, even if there are people who make fake, cut and manipulated videos to make me say things that aren’t said.
What do the stars say to you under love?
That I’m single and I think it’s better this way: if I imagine being with myself, I realize that I’m unbearable, I live a hermit’s life.
In the end, why does he do this job?
Perhaps because of the famous trauma of my twenties: because it makes me feel loved, it gives me the feeling of having a family relationship with the people who follow me, and because their affection compensates for the lack of a family. Are you saying I should talk to a psychiatrist about it?
