The 2023 LUT by Night: A Successful Race Despite Park Closures

The 2023 edition of the famous Lyon trail took place without any weather constraints, but without the possibility of passing through the parks, which were closed.

LUT by Night ended last night. For its 9th edition, the race brought together 6,576 participants, including 1,643 for the 26 km course, 2,532 for the 15 km course, 1,790 for the 8 km timed course, and 611 for the 8 km solo course. In 2022, there were also around 6,000 registrations for the night race. Not all those registered were at the start on Saturday, as the weather may have discouraged some athletes. The City’s parks and gardens had to be bypassed and closed on Saturday due to strong wind gusts (up to 80 km/h).

A slightly younger average than at SaintéLyon

This year, the average age of athletes is 37.5 years, one year younger than the runners of the SaintéLyon, a nighttime run which connects Saint-Étienne and Lyon.

In 2022, the 8th edition of LUT by Night returned to “pre-Covid” participation figures with more than 6,000 runners also registered, a figure that is found in the editions before the pandemic. With a 2020 edition canceled, the 2021 Lyon Urban Trail (day) brought together 9,000 runners over two days, more than 15 of whom participated in a challenge combining night and day events.
