The final, which was scheduled to take place in Istanbul first in 2020 and later this year, could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 Champions final was played in Lisbon and this season in Porto. The UEFA management has thought about holding the final in Istanbul in the short term and decided to give it to the 2023 edition, which is the centenary anniversary year of the founding of the Republic of Turkey to make a gesture to the Turkish country.
Following the UEFA board of directors meeting on 9 July, it will be officially announced that the 2023 Champions League final will be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium.
In addition, UEFA plans to organize the draw for the Champions League and the Europa League for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons in Istanbul. It will also be made official at the June 9 meeting.
