More than 200 activities promises the Quito International Book Fair 2022 (FILQ), which will take place from from 15 to 22 December with the Bicentenary of Independence as the main celebration.
The Quito International Book Fair 2022 is engaged in a diversified program with alternative approaches to the bicentenary of the battle of Pichincha
Its main office will be Metropolitan Cultural Centerand here they will gather 49 stands in six pavilions: bookstores, kids, publishers, universities, independent graphics, used bookstores.
Among the bookshops and publishers participating in this literary fair are Oso Lector, Fondo de Cultura Económica Ecuador, Editorial El Conejo, Libresa, Enjambre: Red de Editoriales Independientes, Andarele Casa Editorial
This Thursday, at the press conference Juan Martin CuevaCouncilor for Culture of the Municipality specified that: “We have seven days of programming, the participation of 80 writers, promoters and managers; as well as various activities, in which the protagonist is the book”.
This edition aims to be a space for building a history of gender, dissidence and resistance. The thematic agenda is curated by a committee integrating a dialogue from the publishing industry for children and young people and new audiences.
The curatorial committee is made up of cultural managers and writers Alejandra Correa, Andrea Crespo, Martín Tituaña and Rafael Castillo.
Twenty international authors, including Chileans, will participate in the fair Alejandro Zambra and Lina Meruane; the Bolivians Liliana Colanzi and Edmundo Paz Soldan; and the Argentines Jorge Boccanera and Selva Almada.
These authors are joined by 80 national writers, including: Gabriela Alemán, Solange Rodríguez, Alicia Ortega, Edwin Madrid, Sandra Araya, Rommel Manosalvas, Natalia García Freire, among others.
In a previous interview with this newspaper, Natalia Enríquez, coordinator of the Metropolitan Library Network, he explains that the validity, production and topicality of their works were taken into account for the selection of the authors. “It’s a book fair that seeks to offer quality to our readers, our new readers, or our non-readers. So we are looking for profiles that can be different, attractive, accessible (…) the commission evaluated various aspects, such as the literary quality, the validity of a work with its contemporary themes”, he has declared.
Sandra Aray writer and independent publisher, he underlined the importance of this literary encounter which breaks the paradigms or imaginaries of society. “Books are for all tastes, they are not for an elite, they are proof that we are a species that thinks and feels. Fairs are not just buying and selling, they are meetings, exchanges, disagreements and conversations. Books open paths to many places.” he said at the press conference.
In addition to the main office, the FILQ offers a circuit and an experience through each space. Then the workshops will be held in Contemporary Art Center; music and theater inside Capitol Theater; while the meeting with the authors will take place in Variety Theater.
The literary meeting is organized by organized by the Municipality of Quito through the Ministry of Culture and in coordination with the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). The investment made is $525,000, claims the organization in a press release.
