The 20 Safest Airlines in the World for 2023, Indonesia Absent

Rank the safest airline in the world have been announced. The airlines with the latest aircraft and reliable pilots are the winners.

Every year, the airline safety website AirlineRatings.com checks airlines around the world. This agency monitors serious safety incidents on 385 airlines to determine which 20 airlines are the safest in the world.

“All airlines experience incidents every day, and many of these are aircraft or engine problems, not airline operational issues,” Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings, said in a statement.

“It is the way the flight crew handles this incident that determines a safe airline,” he said.

The site analyzed each airline’s records for accidents over the past five years, two years of serious incidents, audits from aviation regulatory agencies and associations, fleet age, expert pilot training analysis, and COVID protocols.

In addition to these criteria, each of the airlines on the list are also at the top of the industry in terms of safety innovation and have added state-of-the-art aircraft to their fleet, such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.

The following is the ranking of the 20 safest airlines in the world according to AirlineRatings for 2023:

2. Air New Zealand
3. Etihad Airways
4. Qatar Airways
5. Singapore Airlines
6. TAP Air Portugal
7. Emirates
8. Alaska Airlines
9. EVA Air
10. Virgin Australia/Atlantic
11. Cathay Pacific Airways
12. Hawaiian Airlines
13. SAS
14. United Airlines
15. Lufthansa/Swiss Group
16. Finnair
17. British Airways
18. KLM
19. American Airlines
20. Delta Air Lines.

This year, the aviation safety site also released a list of the top 20 safest low-cost airlines in 2023. Previously there were only 10 rankings. The airlines are: Air Arabia, AirAsia Group, Allegiant, Air Baltic, Easyjet, FlyDubai, Frontier, Jetstar Group, Jetblue, Indigo, Ryanair, Scoot, Southwest, Spicejet, Spirit, Vueling, Vietjet, Volaris, Westjet and Wizz.
