Egyptian newspapers denied the authenticity of the design circulating on social media for the new banknote that the Central Bank intends to issue in the twenty-pound denomination of plastic (polymer).

And the pioneers of social networking sites shared pictures of a new 20-pound banknote of polymer material, and they said that the Central Bank of Egypt intends to launch it with Eid Al-Fitr.

And the circulated images were criticized by some, as they claimed that they contained gay flags.


Others responded to these circulated images that they are incorrect, because they include the signature of the former central bank governor, Tariq Amer, and not the current central bank governor, Hassan Abdullah.

While Al-Watan newspaper quoted banking sources, that “any offering of new plastic currencies in the coming period will be revealed by the Central Bank of Egypt in an official statement, and anything less than that is nothing more than incorrect rumors.”

The newspaper quoted what it described as “informed sources”, that amendments had been made to the rolling design, and that no date had been set for launching the new banknote category in the Egyptian market.

The newspaper said that the new paper bears a picture of the Muhammad Ali Mosque, which is one of the important and famous ancient mosques in Cairo, and was founded by Muhammad Ali Pasha. over several eras.

Last year, the Central Bank of Egypt introduced the first plastic (polymer) currency of ten Egyptian pounds.

According to the bank’s statement at the time, the currency was produced using the most modern banknote production lines applied in the world, in the new printing house in the Administrative Capital (east of Cairo).

The ten-pound note was designed with a “modern, modern and innovative character,” according to the bank, as it is decorated with a picture of the newly built “Al-Fattah Al-Alim” mosque.

The mosque was chosen “as one of the landmarks of the Islamic architectural styles in the New Administrative Capital.”
