In 2015, the Casino group sued two farmers’ unions for theft in meetings and obstruction, following actions carried out during the summer at the headquarters of Châteaucreux and in supermarkets in the Loire. Yesterday, the judge released the farmers sued.
The hearing for the trial took place on December 7, 2021. The Casino group attacked the FNSEA and the Loire Young Farmers Union for having carried out actions at the group’s headquarters in Châteaucreux and at various points of sale in the Loire. The deliberation was delivered Tuesday, January 4: the farmers are released, the judge considering that the troublemakers have not been identified.
Gilles Gaillot, the president of the FNSEA Loire who was attacked says ” very satisfied with this decision.“This lawsuit was for him”an attack on agriculture“.
He explains that at the time, farmers were demonstrating against the presence of foreign agricultural products on the shelves of the Loire supermarket. Since “the cleaning has been done, French agricultural products have found their rightful place“on the shelves,” he explains.
Gilles Gaillot highlights the Egalim Law, which among other things allows “pay the producers a fair price, to allow them to live with dignity from their work “. Since January 1, 2022, contractualization between the first buyers and the producers is mandatory. This should ensure the sale of products at a price including the cost of production and remuneration of farmers.
The president of the FNSEA Loire nevertheless remains cautious: “it’s all new we have to see what it will give in the coming weeks.”
For its part, the Casino group “takes note of the decision rendered yesterday“. A spokesperson for the brand tells us that:”the company never intended to attack these unions; this procedure had above all a symbolic character. It is also an opportunity for us to reaffirm our desire to pursue our commitments in favor of supporting local and regional producers..”
The court’s decision on the damage is final. No appeal is possible.
