The 1st FestivalWe Are UoA” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in a few days (19 – 21/10/2024) opens its doors in the premises of the historic Central Building, in Propylaia (University 30).
The Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, professor Gerasimos Siassosthe members of the Board of Management, the Vice-Chancellors and the members of the Senate look forward with great joy and anticipation to welcoming the entire community of the country’s first and largest University, and especially its students, to the three days of open events that will include, among others:
Opening Festival
Reception for all with a welcome from the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos in the Great Hall of the Central Building, Saturday 10/19, at 12pm.
Outstanding Freshman and Distinguished Student Athlete Awards with a ceremony in the Great Hall of the Central Building, Saturday 10/19, at 6pm.
Open Days (19-21/10, hours 12pm-7pm, “Drakopoulos” Amphitheater)
Open days to get to know and welcome prospective students, their families and the wider community, who will have the opportunity to talk with members of the teaching staff of the forty-two (42) Departments of the University of Athens, both for undergraduate studies and and at postgraduate level.
It is everyone’s chance to explore the family of the country’s first and largest University live, meet the academic and administrative staff, meet current students and discover our diverse study programs. It is the ideal time for everyone to connect with the University of Athens community, learn about the opportunities that await them and envision their future with us.
Speeches “Dialogues”, with the theme: “Links” (Sunday 10/20, hours 12pm-3pm & 5pm-7pm, Amphitheater “Argyriadis”).
The “Dialogues” of the University of Athens is an inspiring action which at the same time is a platform for real-time discussions, which aims to provoke thought, promote the exchange of views between speakers from different fields, who share ideas , their stories and innovative thoughts, encouraging the University of Athens community to interact with new concepts in order to promote innovation, creativity and extroversion.
Career days (19-21/10, Management Council Room, hours 3pm-7pm)
A three-day event organized in collaboration with the Liaison Office of the University of Athens with the aim of offering both our students and graduates a unique opportunity to connect with more than 40 leading companies in various industries.
Throughout the event, participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with potential employers, explore career paths and gain valuable insight into the latest market trends. Through networking sessions, Athens University Career Days are designed to empower the new generation of professionals, helping them navigate the labor market, develop in-demand skills and make informed career choices.
Researcher’s Day (Monday 21/10, hours 3pm-7pm, Amphitheater “Argyriadis”).
The Deans of the Schools of the University of Athens present the research work of their School. The necessity of modern research is evident in every aspect of our lives. It is the basis for sustainable development and the creation of a better future for humanity.
Modern research is of decisive importance for the progress of science, technology and society, as it is the basis for understanding new phenomena, creating innovative solutions and improving the quality of life.
Reception of first-year students of all Departments with a big party in Propylaion Square, Saturday 19/10, at 8.30pm with DJ Set by Alexandros Christopoulos & Izo Darko.
Graduation party Sunday 20/10, Propylaion Square, time 8.30pm. Concert with music from the Greek tradition by the Department of Music Studies (with the participation of the Dance Department of the Greek Academy of Fine Arts).
Reunion party, Monday 21/10, Propylaion Square, time 8.30pm. Concert with the Music Odyssey group of the Department of Music Studies with the participation of Nikos Portokaloglou.
At the same time, the following actions have been planned by the Cultural Association of Students of the University of Athens.
Saturday 19/10/2024
- 12m Opening of a photography exhibition in Propylaia.
- 1pm – 4pm Open shooting at the Festival site by the Film Sector.
- 2pm – 3.30pm Presentation of traditional costumes from the Dance Department’s wardrobe at the IRIDA cinema.
- 3pm – 7pm Open theater workshop by theater students in the small theater located in the basement of the “Kostis Palamas” building. (Maximum participation 50 people)
- 4pm – 7.30pm Open class of traditional dances by students of the Dance Department in the basement of the Hippocrates 15 University Club.
- 6pm – 9.30pm Open photography course by students of the Photography Department at the festival site. (Photos will be taken from the Festival in order to print the photos and present them in the exhibition).
(Maximum number of participants 50 people, priority for EKPA students.)
Sunday 20/10/2024
- 12pm – 3pm Analog printing workshop (participation by filling out a form. Priority to students of the University of Athens, Carrying out a seminar in the darkroom at the University Club and exhibiting the prints in the Propylaea. (Applies to the shots made in the open class on Saturday) (Maximum participation of 25 people)
- 12.30pm – 2.30pm Presentation of a taped performance 1st Theater Sector Group at IRIDA (filming and editing has been done by the students of the Cinematography Sector).
- 3pm – 6pm Blueprint workshop (participation by filling in a form. Priority to students of the University of Athens – Maximum participation of 30 people – Conducting a seminar in an open outdoor space within the festival venue) and exhibition of the prints at the Propylaia exhibition.
- 3pm – 7pm Open theater workshop by students of the Theater Department in the small theater located in the basement of the “Kostis Palamas” building (Maximum participation 50 people)
Monday 21/10/2024
- 12pm – 2pm Screening of the film “Death of a Bureaucrat – La muerte de un burocrata (Comedy, 1966)” by the students of the Cinema Department at the IRIDA cinema
- 2pm – 5pm Screening and presentation of the editing process by students of the Cinematographic EKPA in the University Club building.
- 5pm-7pm Presentation of a taped theatrical performance by the 2nd Theater Department Group
Finally, during the Festival there will be guided tours of the Central Building of the Propylaea in order for everyone to get to know this wonderful and imposing building of the National and Kapodistrian University, which was founded on July 2, 1839 and was designed by the Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen and which was intended from the outset to be the center of the newly established University of Athens.
