PARIS (Reuters) – Video game publisher Ubisoft said on Wednesday it outperformed its expectations in terms of revenue at first trimester of its 2020-2021 financial year, the group having notably recorded a record number of players.
Turnover increased by 17.6% to 427.3 million euros, and net bookings jumped 30.5% to 410 million euros, where the group expected 335 million.
“This performance was driven by the depth of our catalog and the quality of our Live services in a favorable context for theindustry and the strong execution of our teams ”, commented the director financial statement, Frédérick Duguet, quoted in a statement.
However, the group said it was counting on a drop in its “net bookings” to 290 million euros in the second trimester 2020-2021, due to an unfavorable basis of comparison. The second trimester 2019-2020 had benefited from the marketing of the new opus Ghost Recon Breakpoint of the Tom Clancy franchise.
Ubisoft, which has confirmed its financial objectives for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, also reconsidered the accusations of behaviours inappropriate which led to the departure of several executives from the group.
“If current performance and perspectives Ubisoft business is stronger than ever, but we still need to challenge very serious following recent allegations and accusations of bad conduct and of behaviours inappropriate. I am determined to implement profound changes to improve and strengthen our culture ofbusiness », Said the CEO, Yves Guillemot.
