Sweeney was to receive the proposal via private messages sent from the Tesla CEO’s Twitter account, as reported by Protocol first. Elon Musk allegedly argued that keeping a jet informed about its location could “pose a threat to its safety.” At least that’s what the screenshots Sweeney showed to Insider show.
The billionaire’s recent posts on social media sounded in a similar vein. Elon Musk said on January 18 that such initiatives “have a bad impact on security issues.”
The correspondence between the teenager and Musk presented to Insider shows that the discussion concerned, inter alia, how computer bots created by Sweeney were able to track the position of the billionaire’s plane. The teenager also gave some tips on how to make Tesla CEO’s jet more difficult to track.

How about this: 5,000 hole. for my account and supporting me in making it difficult for madmen to track my location?
Musk asked.
It can be done. The question is, would you be able to increase your offer to 50,000?
Sweeney replied.
The 19-year-old mentioned the need to pay for studies and noted that part of this amount could be spent on the purchase of the Model 3 Tesla.
5 thousand hole. it is not enough
– I put a lot of work into this project, which is why I believe that 5,000. hole. it is not enough The man explained in a conversation with Insider. This amount was also supposed to be too small to replace the satisfaction that this project gives him.
Musk was initially to consider Sweeney’s proposal, but decided in the next step that “having to pay to close an account is something wrong for him.” By the time the article was published, the billionaire had not responded to Insider’s request for comment.
Jack Sweeney noted that Musk took advantage of some of the technical advice that emerged from the conversation. One such solution is the implementation of a blocking system that changes the signal coming from the jet transponder, making the machine more difficult to track.
“I just need to learn to get around this security,” said the teenager.
Administrator of the profile showing the location of the jet Muska He stressed that he made the decision to make public the offer he received after the billionaire “lost interest in the deal”.
– He chose a different path. So why shouldn’t I do the same? Sweeney wondered.
Out of sympathy for Elon
Twitter profile that provides information about the jet’s travels Elona Muska |, was established in June 2020. Jack Sweeney uses bots that collect publicly available data on air traffic to obtain information on the location of Musk’s jet. As he admits, it took him several months to work on the technology he currently uses.
The teenager claims that he got the idea out of sympathy for the billionaire. – I knew Musk had a jet. Knowing his current location can say a lot, for example about whether he is currently in charge, etc. – he said.

Sweeney added that his interest in aviation was indirectly due to his father working in the aviation industry. “I used to use apps that track air traffic and other things like that in my youth,” he says. “They seemed a great right to me,” he added.
Sweeney, who is currently a college student, said he works part-time at UberJets, where he is contributing to the charter tracking platform. Its aim is to enable passengers to find cheaper seats in airplanes. He has made his work on the Muska jet tracking system available on the GitHUb portal, thanks to which he can present them to potential employers.
