These games will feature a record number of delegations, with more than 4,400 athletes representing 168 countries, including refugee teams. As a special detail, the International Paralympic Committee confirmed that Eritrea, Kosovo and the Kiribati Islands will make their debut at the world’s top sporting event.
Argentina will participate in 14 sports disciplines in total, of which only one is made up of teams: Los Murciélagos, who will seek to win the gold medal after losing the final of the previous Paralympic Games against Brazil.
Our delegation will have 13 more athletes than at the Tokyo 2020 Games and will seek to increase the national medal count. Our focus is on Athletics and Swimming, disciplines that gave us 4 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in Japan. Also, our para taekwondo athlete Juan Samorano will fight to get a new medal in the up to 75 kilos category.
The opening ceremony will take place between the Champs-Élysées and the Place de la Concorde and will start at 6:00 p.m. (French time) hosted by artistic director Thomas Jolly. Some 50,000 people will attend the opening.
