The Arab Theater Authority selected 20 performances to participate in the 14th session of the Arab Theater Festival, which is organized during the period from January 10 to 16, 2024 in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The authority revealed that a five-member viewing committee selected 13 performances in the festival’s competitive track from Iraq, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, the Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait and Jordan. The festival also displays five plays within the non-competitive track from Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Morocco, in addition to two plays from Sudan and Palestine within a third track for hosted performances.
The Secretary-General of the Arab Theater Authority, Ismail Abdullah, said: “These performances are important and raise burning questions in the spaces of freedom, justice and human rights, and defend life and goodness, carrying high-level and innovative artistic visions and dealing with universal and Arab issues that shake the entity of the world.”
He added, “In the 14th session, the world will witness the awareness of Arab playwrights and their engagement with the historical path of their nation, their homelands, and humanity, and will see that Arab playwrights present to it their aesthetic, intellectual, and philosophical visions.” The Arab Theater Festival was launched for the first time in 2009 in Cairo and is held every year in a different Arab capital.
