The 13th edition of the Course in Advanced Medical Management and Health Policies, organized by the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Catanzaro, led by Dr. Vincenzo Ciconte
A cutting-edge training event in Italy, which received the support of experts and institutional figures, helping to outline a broad picture of the challenges and opportunities linked to the changing healthcare landscape.
The last module took place on Friday 8 November in the Conference Room of the Hotel Guglielmo. The course, divided into eight modules and developed over six months, saw the active participation of numerous professionals in the sector, with a focus on fundamental issues for the evolution of the medical profession and the healthcare system.
The president of the Medical Association of Catanzaro, Vincenzo Cicontereiterated the importance of a course that is not limited to the professional aspects of medicine, but also integrates skills in business management, communication and quality of healthcare services.
“Today, unfortunately, doctor training cannot stop at clinical competence alone. It is essential that every health professional also knows the economic, financial and business management aspects,” he declared, underlining the importance of collaboration between institutions to carry out high-level training projects.
The course director, the Dr. Lino Puzzoniaexpressed his satisfaction with the path undertaken, underlining how, in this edition, the need to integrate professional skills with broader preparation has clearly emerged.
“This course is not just a professional update, but an opportunity for collective growth for all doctors,” added Puzzonia, highlighting the synergy between the Order and the high-level teaching staff who participated in the initiative.
Among the institutional interventions, that of the extraordinary commissioner of the “Renato Dulbecco” University Hospital, Simona Carbonewho expressed his appreciation for the course, highlighting how the training of doctors is fundamental in a period of great changes in the healthcare system.
“This course has a significant impact, as it addresses the crucial issues of regulatory and technological changes that are redefining the medical profession. The integration of the two souls of the hospital and university company favors an important exchange of skills that enriches everyone”, stated Carbone.
The rector of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, Professor Giovanni Cudahighlighted the synergy between university and professional training.
“As rector, I am first and foremost a doctor and I never forget my professional roots. This course represents a fundamental moment of updating for all of us, and I am happy that the Medical Association has created such an important initiative.
University and healthcare must walk together, and this course demonstrates how essential collaboration between the academic and healthcare worlds is,” said Cuda, recalling the importance of continuing to work to guarantee a healthcare system that is increasingly integrated , efficient and high quality for all citizens.
He spoke on the topic of medical liability, speaking remotely, Doctor Pierino Di Silverionational secretary of ANAAO Assomed, who made some observations on the current legislative system and the difficulties that doctors face, being subjected to a plurality of courts.
“We are not asking for impunity, but simply for the same laws applicable to all professionals to also be extended to us doctors. Responsibility must be managed in a more fair and rational way, above all to avoid the growing defensive medicine that is weighing on healthcare costs”, declared Di Silverio, highlighting the need for a reform that protects doctors and at the same time guarantees legal protection for the patients.
“The Commission has concluded its work and presented to the Minister of Justice the proposals aimed at guaranteeing the serenity of doctors, convinced that a calm doctor without legal fears can work better, avoiding defensive medicine practices such as unnecessary prescriptions and tests. The doctor’s serenity, however, must be compatible with strong legal protection for citizens, who must always be protected from acts of medical malpractice”, he explained Dr. Adelchi d’Ippolitopresident of the ministerial commission on medical professional negligence.
Dr. d’Ippolito underlined that, although measures have already been taken to combat physical attacks on healthcare personnel, it is necessary to intervene on legal attacks.
“The Commission has proposed tools to reduce complaints, in particular criminal ones, which are too often instrumental and used to put pressure or obtain unjustified compensation. The fact that less than 5% of complaints against doctors end in conviction demonstrates how many of them are unfounded. Our objective – he concluded – is to create an environment in which doctors can operate peacefully, reducing instrumental complaints to a minimum, without however compromising the legal protection of the citizen”.
Closing the proceedings was the president of the Enpam Foundation, Doctor Giuseppe Oliveriwho took stock of the course, observing how the medical profession is going through a moment of profound transformation. “Our task today is to reconnect the threads of a social fabric that has always seen us as points of reference. We must face the demographic, economic and technological challenges with concrete and far-sighted solutions”, stated Oliveri, hoping for a greater centrality of the medical profession within the healthcare system.
With this important course, the Medical Association of Catanzaro has reiterated its commitment to promoting advanced training courses that respond to the new needs of doctors, preparing professionals to deal with the complexities and challenges of modern medicine, increasingly linked to business management and technology.
The organizational secretariat of the course was taken care of by the Present&Future Agency.
