The 13 Areopagites who raised a “wall” of protection for the Rule of Law in Greece – 2024-02-16 22:46:31

They raised a “wall” of protection for the operation of the Rule of Law in our country by standing up to the circumstances.

They are the 13 Areopagites who, during yesterday’s unprecedented meeting of the Administrative Plenary of the Supreme Court, refused to condemn the “catapult” resolution of the European Parliament for the rule of law in our country, on the grounds that the issue is of a political nature and cannot be object of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court. At the same time, about 49 of their colleagues “condemned” the resolution of the European Parliament, providing support to the Mitsotakis government, instead of seeing why the Europeans, for the first time after the junta, issued a resolution condemning the rule of law in our country.

The documentonews.gr publishes the names of 13 Areopagits who steadfastly refused to put their signature on the most embarrassing, for the prestige of the Supreme Court, moment of the last decades. Their names will go down in history as a “bright” example for younger judges to follow. Of course, if we really want to progress as a democracy and not make setbacks, because the future is always unknown.

The 13 Areopagites are as follows:

Mary Lepeniotisvice president of the Supreme Court, Helen Berthia, Dimitris Tragas, Friday Tsoumari, Brysida Thomas, Panagiota Passion, Panagiotis Venizelea, Chrysoula Platia, Panagiota GoodyNine, Meropi Jugaraki, Iphigenia Matsuka, Apostle Photopoulos, Ilias Jarenis.

The “blue” Lymberopoulos

The Administrative Plenary of the Supreme Court was set up on the initiative of the president of the Supreme Court, Ioanna Klapa, choice of the Mitsotakis government for the leadership of the Supreme Court. The speaker of the issues raised in the resolution was the Areopagite Panagiotis Lymberopoulos. A person known for his relations with the ND, friend close to the government faction and for many years the trade union “arm” of the ND in the Union of Judges and Prosecutors.

The rapporteur Areopagitis concluded that the European Parliament’s resolution adopts “questionable data and conclusions that have been drawn without documentation by quoting false and unconfirmed information”.

Mr. Lymberopoulos also pointed out “that all this harms justice, as, as he pointed out, it is possible to give citizens and community institutions the impression that the rule of law in Greece is declining due to corruption that includes the judiciary”.

They confirmed the Europeans

In essence, the judges simply confirmed the European Parliament in what they accuse our country of the functioning of the rule of law and made things worse in terms of impressions by reminding something of Viktor Orban’s Hungary. The meeting of the Plenary of the Supreme Court was commented on in her post on twitter by the Dutch MEP and rapporteur of PEGA, Sophie In’t Veldt stressing that it is the first time that a court of a member state intervenes in political matters.

«In a remarkable turn of events, pToday the Supreme Court of Greece, the Supreme Court, issued a statement regarding resolution of the European Parliament concerning the rule of law in Greece. A more detailed report will obviously follow»
