In second place is Lionel Messi, who moved to the North American soccer league MLS in the summer and earns 128 million euros a year. The Argentine is the first MLS player since David Beckham (2012) to enter Forbes’ Top 10 highest-paid players.
In third place is Neymar, who moved from the French top league to Saudi Arabia in the summer. His annual income is estimated at 106.5 million euros.
Saudi Arabia is home to four of the 11 highest-paid footballers according to Forbes (Ronaldu, Neymar, Karim Benzema and Sadio Mane).
Among the footballers playing in Europe’s top leagues, Kylian Mbappe, the star of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has the highest income, earning 104.5 million euros per year.
The sums indicated in the Forbes ranking include player salaries and bonuses earned over the past year. In addition, football player sponsorship contracts and other incomes are also taken into account.
