The 11-day war is coming to an end in Israel. A ceasefire enters into force in the Gaza Strip – Abroad – News

The ceasefire reached through Egypt was backed by the Israeli security cabinet on Thursday night.

Shortly afterwards, Tahers al Nuno, a spokesman for the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, confirmed that Hamas agreed to the ceasefire, which would enter into force tonight.

He said Palestinian “armed resistance” would abide by the ceasefire as long as it was by the Israeli side.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that if the Palestinians continued their rocket attacks, the ceasefire would be lifted immediately.

US President Joe Biden said the ceasefire provided a “real opportunity” to make progress towards lasting peace in the Middle East. He said the United States, the United Nations and other partners were ready to assist the Palestinian Authority with humanitarian and reconstruction assistance.

The ceasefire has disrupted the war since 10 May, in which some 230 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, while rockets fired from the Gaza Strip have killed 12 people in Israel.
