On August 9, local time, the strike of Hollywood actors and screenwriters ushered in the 100th day. The strike led to a shutdown of the Hollywood film and television industry in the United States, and the production of many episodes was postponed.
Going back to May 2, a hundred days ago, more than 11,000 screenwriters of the American Screenwriters Guild went on strike, demanding that major film and television companies increase the salary of screenwriters and the distribution of residual income from streaming media platforms; on July 14 local time, the Screen Actors Guild of America also announced Join the strike.
In addition to actors and screenwriters, recently, dock workers, hotel employees, truck drivers and other practitioners in various industries have “strike waves” sweeping the United States.
On August 8, local time, more than 11,000 municipal workers in Los Angeles, California, USA launched a one-day large-scale strike. Protesters lined up to demonstrate at Los Angeles International Airport that morning, blocking airport entrances and causing traffic jams at the terminal.
In early July, employees of several hotels in California went on strike to protest against the high cost of living such as rent, and to strive for higher wages and benefits.
In early June, a total of 22,000 workers representing 29 terminals at US West Coast ports went on strike due to wage disputes, disrupting cargo operations at major US West Coast ports.
In late March, the Los Angeles Unified School District held a three-day general strike, and more than 500,000 students and their families were affected by the closure of schools. Demonstrators took to the streets in the rain that day, and many held placards with the words “Respect Us” and “Fair Wages.”
