There is no game in the Bundesliga on Friday. Four games will be kicked off on Sunday. In addition to BVB and Bielefeld, six other teams are playing. t-online explains the reasons for this.
No Bundesliga game on Friday evening? Correct. No game will be played on March 11th. Eight teams are playing for this on Sunday: Dortmund has to play against Bielefeld, Frankfurt receives Bochum (both 5.30 p.m.), Leverkusen and Cologne (3.30 p.m.) and Greuther Fürth and Leipzig (7.30 p.m. / all games in the t-online live ticker ). Unusual situation brought about by the Europa League.
To be more precise: The four German teams that were still in the running when the Bundesliga was terminated by the German Football League (DFL). These were Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen.
It would no longer have needed a few Sunday games
However, BVB failed in the intermediate round. In mid-February, coach Marco Rose’s team lost 4-2 at home to Glasgow Rangers, the second leg ended 2-2 and sealed the end of the competition. RB Leipzig did not have to play the scheduled round of 16 games against Spartak Moscow due to the political situation surrounding the Ukraine war and thus automatically made it through to the next round.
And Eintracht Frankfurt already won 2-1 against Betis Sevilla on Wednesday, March 9th. The round of 16 game was played the day before instead of Thursday. So these Sunday games in the Bundesliga would no longer have been necessary. Only at Leverkusen would the situation remain unchanged.
But now the four games are taking place as planned. Another innovation is that the DAZN streaming service will show the games between Borussia Dortmund and Arminia Bielefeld and Eintracht Frankfurt against Bochum in a conference call on March 13th. Both games will also be shown as individual games.
