That’s why the Ironman doesn’t take place in Hawaii

The world’s best triathletes compete this weekend at the World Championships. The Ironman traditionally takes place in Hawaii. You can find out here at SPOX why that is not the case this year.

For the first time in the history of the Ironman World Championship, the traditional triathlon will not take place on the Pacific island. Instead, the first Ironman since 2019 will be held this year in St. George, Utah. On Saturday, May 7th, the start of the race will be fired at 2.15 p.m. German time.

Triathlon: That’s why the Ironman doesn’t take place in Hawaii

The last time the best triathletes in the world met at the Ironman World Championships in 2019. The previous two editions of the race, 2020 and 2021, have been cancelled. The reason for this was the corona pandemic, which made it impossible for the Ironman to start.

For the same reason, the Ironman will not take place in Hawaii this weekend, but in St. George in southern Utah. Last year, those responsible decided to move the World Cup to St. George due to the uncertain corona situation in Kailua-Kona. The weather conditions in Hawaii are brutal every year. This is unlikely to change in St. George this year. Athletes can expect temperatures of around 34 degrees on Saturday in southern Utah.
