Only a few more days until the first open-air cinema starts on the church square in Südkirchen. With the film “Unter Bauern”, a cinema highlight appropriate to the location will be shown on July 28 as part of the NRW film locations. Admission is free.
It all started with a cup of coffee in February. After the many restrictions caused by the corona pandemic, the two friends Margret Zumholz and Petra Volmerg thought that something nice and invigorating had to be done for the village community. “After a short exchange of ideas, the choice fell very quickly on an open-air cinema,” say Margret Zumholz and Petra Volmerg.
Many helping hands
At the request of the organizer of the NRW film locations, Anna Fantl, she made everything possible. “The date was fixed for July 28th and the campaign was integrated into the series of events celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the community of Nordkirchen,” says the Südkirchen duo. Many helping hands and sponsors were quickly found. Margret Zumholz, as the second chairwoman, submitted an application for funding in the special program “Restart Together” of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia via the Friends of the South Churches (FKS), the local banks made a generous contribution, the church community provided the location and some groups and clubs will organize the supporting program in the evening.
To shorten the waiting time until dusk, the cabaret artist “Bauer Schulte-Brömmelkamp” performs.
As night falls, the movies resume. “Bring cushions, blankets and warm jackets – even in midsummer it can get chilly at night,” advise Margret Zumholz and Petra Volmerg.
The program at a glance:
- From 7 p.m.: Book flea market at the library in the parish home in Südkirchen.
- Drinks and grilled food from the FKS.
- Popcorn and nachos from the Catholic Women’s Community (kfd) for the cinema atmosphere.
- 7.45 p.m.: cabaret artist “Bauer Schulte-Brömmelkamp”.
- At dusk: short film “Le Pré du Mal” and main film “Unter Bauern”.
The plot of the film “Unter Bauern”: In 1943, Marga Spiegel and her husband Menne, together with their daughter Karin, flee from Nazi persecution. The wife and daughter find shelter on a friend’s farm and live there under false identities, while Menne, hiding in attics separately from them, almost loses his mind from loneliness.
