Marsch believes it is good for team chemistry in Paris that Messi became world champion for the first time at the end of his career and can now return to his club as champion. The defeat “wouldn’t have been easy for Messi to bear. It would have definitely changed his place in history and denied him something that he rightfully deserved,” said Marsch.

In his duels with RB Leipzig against PSG, Marsch questioned whether Neymar or Messi were the team’s alpha. “They are both incredibly big stars, but I think she and Mbappé know that no matter how good you are, even if you are the best player in the world, you cannot win anything alone,” wrote the American. “You can only achieve something when you have a strong team that believes in its best players and the team as a whole.”
