The “Lebensmittelzeitung” reports that Lidl is taking this step because Haribo has increased prices and the supermarket does not want to pass this on to its customers. Allegedly, other retail chains are also complaining about the confectionery manufacturer in this regard.

“We can confirm that we are currently in tough price negotiations with retailers,” said the Haribo group. “Temporary delistings are a well-known tactical means to increase the pressure on suppliers,” it said with a view to the actions of some dealers. In terms of price increases, the fruit gum manufacturer refers to increased raw material prices, which are a consequence of the corona crisis.

In detail, the price war looks like this: Haribo has increased the price of the 360 gram pack of gummy bears by ten cents, instead of 1.19 euros it now costs 1.29 euros. Lidl is probably reluctant to do this – and according to the “Lebensmittelzeitung” newspaper, it has not ordered any further Haribo products since July 1st. The remaining stocks are slowly but surely coming to an end.
