The A-Juniors of VfR Fischeln pulled themselves out of the affair in the round of 16 of the Lower Rhine Cup against the opponents Rot-Weiss Essen, who were only overwhelming on paper. The fact that the Bundesliga team was 3-1 (2-0) ahead and progressed one round as expected is only a side issue in this context. With all activities related to the game and after deducting the unavoidable costs – the guests waived their quite substantial share – 580 euros came together for the Ukraine aid. At the upcoming annual general meeting, a donation will be requested again and the money will then be handed over to the Krefeld radio station “Welle Niederrhein”, which has the appropriate connections.

Annoying for the Kockel team that the referee Solomon Anderson (Süchteln) always decided in case of doubt, and his linesman decided against his boys in two cases. First, Mustafa Kourouma made it 2-0, who was clearly offside (31′). This was also confirmed at halftime by the many referees from district 6 who watched the game. Elefterios Theocharis brought the favorites forward early in front of more than 400 spectators on Kölner Straße (3rd).

And a quarter of an hour before the end, an assistant also had an influence: After consulting with his linesman, Anderson moved a hard attack just before the penalty area, although almost all spectators had seen the action clearly from inside (74th). After a foul on Amin Azdouffal, Ylber Rrahmani had temporarily reduced the lead to 1:2 (63′).

For the Essen team, who were surprisingly put on the defensive in the second half, Ohuzhan Büyükarslan only made the victory perfect in injury time. They were able to thank the post or crossbar three times in the course of the game that there was still progress.

“Today we advertised Fischeln youth football. It’s a shame that the game was decided by people over whom we have no control. I’m very sorry for the team because they didn’t deserve it,” Kockel was visibly pissed off long after the argument, who had already lamented the loss of his goalscorer Maciej Jan Herod (Corona) before the kick-off.

By the way, VfR co-trainer Steffen Jelitto, in his fourth year with Kockel, was eliminated once in the quarter-finals of the cup, i.e. one round further on. The 53-year-old headmaster was still the coach of the B-Juniors at TV Rumeln and lost to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
