That’s what the ski star says after a disappointing suit

Switzerland has to wait for the next medal at the World Cup. In the combination, Loïc Meillard & Co. clearly miss the leap onto the podium.

the essentials in brief

  • Alexis Pinturault wins World Championship gold in men’s alpine combined.
  • Marco Schwarz (silver) and Raphael Haaser (bronze) win precious metal for Austria.
  • Loïc Meillard, the best Swiss, finished in disappointing sixth place.
  • Tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11:30 a.m., the women’s Super-G continues.

The mortgage from the Super-G was too big – the Swiss clearly miss a medal in the Alpine combination. Loïc Meillard has to settle for sixth place. Justin Murisier is eliminated in the slalom at the first (!) goal.

“Everything was lost after the Super-G”

Meillard is disappointed after the race. “I wanted a medal. And that didn’t work, »says the 26-year-old in an interview with SRF.

As is well known, the leaders start first in the combined slalom. Meillard was only twelfth at half-time. “After the Super-G everything was actually lost,” he says. Because of the ruts, it was definitely not good to start so far back.

Will Loïc Meillard win a medal at this World Championships?

Maybe he had a little too much respect. “The run was actually much easier than expected,” said Loïc Meillard. Maybe he also has to work on his mindset with regard to the next races.

Murisier disappointed after faux pas

Justin Murisier is eliminated in the slalom at the very first goal. He can’t comment much because his run wasn’t long, he says in an interview. “It was a bit steep, so I tried to keep the altitude. But that didn’t work,” says Murisier.

The Swiss explains that the snow is very soft. “Maybe I was a bit too aggressive with my set-up. But it’s always difficult to say. Of course it’s a disappointment, but I have to quickly regain the energy for the descent.”

Home gold for Pinturault

The gold medal goes to local hero Alexis Pinturault. The Frenchman drives to World Championship gold on his home track in Courchevel. He had already won the station wagon in Are in 2019 and won silver in 2021. Now he makes himself immortal in his homeland.

Defending champion Marco Schwarz secures second place. In the end, the Austrian is only 12 hundredths short of victory. Bitter: Black is on course for gold until shortly before the target, but then makes a serious mistake.

Raphael Haaser wins bronze and thus secures Austria’s third medal at this World Cup.
