Only a few more months and then the new iPhone will be in the shops. But what will the new device be called? After the current iPhone 12, you might as a successor iPhone 13 but that name is not necessarily obvious… What will the iPhone 2021 name be?
In rumors, the new iPhone is usually referred to as iPhone 13 – a name that we also use often, purely for recognisability. However, it remains to be seen whether that will be the actual name. The Economic Daily News now believes it is certain that Apple has indeed chosen the name iPhone 13 (and iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max). But their predictions are wrong in more than 60 percent of the cases. There’s reason to doubt iPhone 13, but what’s the alternative?
iPhone 2021 name: what is the name of the new iPhone?
iPhone 13 makes less sense than it sounds. First, 13 is an unlucky number in many parts of the world. Apple has previously skipped the iPhone 9 due to superstition, as 9 is an unlucky number in Japan. In the line-up are 8 and X, but not 9. Perhaps 13 is also avoided out of superstition, and we jump directly to iPhone 14.
Moreover, the name iPhone 13 does not fit into Apple’s traditional naming pattern. Apple usually works with so-called S updates. One year the iPhone gets a major update and a whole new grade. The next year an iPhone appears with more or less the same design, but with small internal improvements. Then Apple put an S after the name. So you had the iPhone 6 one year, and the iPhone 6s the next.
In recent years, Apple has made a bit of a mess of this scheme. For example, after the iPhone 7, the 7s did not appear, but the iPhone 8. Then came the iPhone X on iPhone XS, but after the iPhone 11 came directly last year iPhone 12. This year’s update appears to be modest, and Apple may pick up the traditional schedule again. So iPhone 12s is still a logical name for us – and the most logical in our opinion.
Finally, there are also rumors about a completely new name. Namely just ‘iPhone’ followed by the year of publication. For example, Apple already does this with the Macs. In that case, the iPhone 2021 is called… iPhone 2021.
iPhone 13 release
From iPhone 13 iPhone 14 iPhone 2021 iPhone 12s if all goes well in September. It is the successor to the iPhone 12, which is currently still for sale at stores such as Amac, Belsimpel on coolblue.
