If a Finnish celebrity has to be made into a biographical film, many would certainly like it Pertti “Spede” from Pasa as a suitable alternative.

The long-awaited film was released in autumn 2023. However, it was far from a huge success. In terms of viewership, there was even talk of a flop.

Spade gathered 40,286 viewers in cinemas according to the Finnish Film Foundation. This was significantly lost, for example, by the main actor Riku Nieminen for the previous biopic. Starred by Nieminen Juicea (2018) was watched by more than 180,000 viewers, i.e. more than four times the number.

Speden audience figures also paled for biopics Gimmick! (2022, 72,300 viewers), Helene (2020, 178,500 viewers), Tove (2020, 172,000 viewers) and Tom of Finland (2017, 102,700 viewers).

In the film, however, Pasase is not portrayed as a victim or a saint. Spede’s character is sometimes suddenly violent and sometimes a lascivious ladies’ man.

– The script managed to elegantly deal with what Spede might have thought about his own position of power in relation to women, for example, Nieminen told Iltalehte a year ago.

– Inevitably, it’s not always nice at the top. It can be quite lonely there, Nieminen thought.
