That’s how popular ‘The Crown’ season 5 is in ‘its own’ country

After all the controversy surrounding the final season, the ratings paint a different picture.

Even before the fifth season of The crown came out, there was already a lot going on around the latest chapter of the British royal family. Despite all the criticism and negative attention, Netflix has done no harm as the series is number 1 in the UK.

It’s not just hugely popular in the UK. The series also manages to reach the top 10 most watched series in 88 other countries, where it is also number 1 in 37 countries. In the Netherlands, the series is also number 1. Since the series’ release on November 9, more than 107 million hours have been watched for the fifth season.

A good chase

The series had also seen a notable increase in the number of viewing minutes following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September this year. The first season with Claire Foy immediately reached the seventh place in the ranking of the most watched series.

The last season of The crown talks about the turbulent 90s in which the British royal family had to take many blows and had to work hard on the image damage. The roles are played by, among others, Imelda Staunton who plays the role of Queen Elizabeth and Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki who play the role of Charles and Diana respectively.
