During the inspection during the Easter holidays, the employees of the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) found 122 drunken drivers until Monday morning, the head of the Accident Prevention and Traffic Department of the BRFK’s Traffic Police Department informed MTI on Monday.
Tibor Szécsi said: this means that one percent of the drivers who were checked were drunk at the wheel, as 11,137 drivers have been probed in the capital since Friday.
The police took action all over the city, there were places such as the Petőfi bridge where the driver of every passing vehicle was checked, he added.
He said: the purpose of the raid was to improve the traffic situation, prevent accidents, and thus screen out drunk drivers.
Both the central traffic police of the BRFK and the staff of the district police stations take part in the inspection.
Drivers are probed throughout the capital, Tibor Szécsi emphasized.
