After more than two years, it will be that time again on Tuesday evening: Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been with Juventus Turin since 2018, is dueling with FC Barcelona (9 p.m.). A duel that promises a spectacle.
For nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo went hunting for goals and titles at Real Madrid. Most of his 31 competitive games that the Portuguese played against FC Barcelona go back to this time. CR7 previously played against the Catalans with Manchester United. With Atletico Madrid (33 duels), the 35-year-old only played against one team more often in his career.
Barcelona not his favorite opponent
But to get back to FC Barcelona: Although Ronaldo has scored 18 times against the Cules, he had to admit defeat with his teams 15 times. On the other side there are only nine wins and nine draws. One cannot necessarily speak of one’s favorite opponent. And yet the five-time world footballer often played big against Barca.
Ronaldo was often the hero in Clasico
In the final of the Copa del Rey 2011, CR7 decided the Spanish Cup for Real Madrid with a header hit in stoppage time. A season later, he shot the Royal with his goal to 2-1 on matchday 35 towards the championship title. In the Spanish Supercup of the 2012/13 season he scored in two legs – the Madrilenians came out on top thanks to the superstar. And also in his final season in Spain he played himself in focus when he pushed the leather past Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the right corner of the cross in the Supercup first leg (3-1), but then flew off the field there he nudged the referee with excitement after a controversial penalty scene.
CR7 missed first leg against Barca
Ronaldo missed the first leg in the current group stage between Juventus Turin and FC Barcelona (0-2) because of a corona infection. The fans can hope that Tuesday evening at Camp Nou will be as exciting as in the past between the Portuguese and the Catalans.
