Real Madrid still have chances to defend their national title and to win the Champions League. To achieve these goals, however, Karim Benzema must maintain his strong form.
–
Of course: on Tuesday evening it was Karim Benzema again, who with his goal in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League against Chelsea (1: 1) kept the chance to qualify for the final.
A statistical survey by MARCA shows how dependent Los Blancos are on their top striker. In none of the top international clubs such as FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, FC Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea or Juventus Turin is the discrepancy between the best and the following goalscorers as great as in Madrid.
Benzema scored a total of 28 times in all competitions this season. Vinicius Junior, Marco Asensio and Casemiro have each scored six goals, Luka Modric four – making a total of 22 goals.
For comparison: Superstar Lionel Messi scored 33 goals at Real’s arch-rivals Barça, the following four goalscorers scored a total of 42. Antoine Griezmann scored 18 goals, Ousmane Dembele (10) and Frenkie de Jong and Martin Braithwaite each scored seven goals.
