“Unfortunately, we had to take this step considering that we only got 3 points out of 27 possible in the last 9 games. We see no other option than to try to give new impetus to the team. Players now have 2 days off and before the process of training, which will continue on Wednesday, we want to be clear about the new coach,” owner and general manager Libor Zábranský said on the club’s website regarding Pešout’s sacking.
Kometa lost against České Budějovice 1:3 on Sunday and recorded their fourth consecutive defeat. It is eighth in the standings. The Brno team now loses eleven points from third place, which belonged to Kometa ten rounds earlier. Česká Budějovice is only five points clear of thirteenth place.
Pešout arrived in Brno in the summer as the successor of Jiří Kalous with ambitions and desire to restore Komet to its former glory and bring the team, eliminated in the preliminary round of the playoffs in the spring, closer to the top of the additional league yet. The team’s start didn’t work out very well, but it was a great October. The team stepped up with a series of reinforcements, won ten out of eleven duels and attacked the top of the table.
However, progress then stalled and, with injuries to some key players and other absences, the team was slowly mired in a slump. The sole return to the bench of owner and national team assistant coach Libor Zábranský didn’t help either. The presence of the Brno coach was not enough for Sparta, who were in full swing, the team not scoring in the last two rounds even with Karlovy Vary at home and České Budějovice away, i.e. with teams from the bottom half of the table.

With his arrival, owner Zábranský will also be back on the ice for good. “My only condition was that Libor would stay with me at the switchboard. He will coach the defenders and play a similar role to the one he has with the national team,” revealed new coach Martinec. Jiří Horáček will continue to be his assistant. “He knows all the players perfectly and will be a great support for me, especially from the start,” promises 51-year-old Martinec, a former Sparta legend.
His plan for the start is mostly to mentally lift the team. “The players must feel comfortable playing, regain the necessary self-confidence and confidence in their abilities,” added the coach.
